  History
For centuries women have beautified their eyes and lips with forms of “permanent” makeup. During the last century this makeup form has been the most popular in the Asian and Latin countries. In the late 1980’s the concept of permanent makeup was introduced in America and appears to be gaining popularity in all areas of the country. When performed well by an experienced and skillful technician, the advantages are readily apparent. Permanent makeup is convenient. It defines, improves and enhances your natural features, giving you the confidence of looking your best at all times.

Cosmetically the most popular procedures include eyeliner/lash enhancement, eyebrows, lip liner, and full lip color. Eyeliner/ lash enhancement creates the look of thicker lashes and beautifully frames the eyes. Eyebrows that are sparse, missing or shapeless can be filled in or more evenly shaped. Lip liner and full lip color can redefine the shape and add a brighter color to pale lips.

Medical applications are numerous. People with condition of alopecia (hair loss) can receive the appearance of eyebrows and eyelashes. Nipple/areola re-pigmentation following breast reconstruction is an effective technique to recreate the natural appearance of the breast.  Scalp tinting can give the appearance of thicker hair. Tinting can also be done following hair trans-plants to camouflage any scarring. It can be used to correct scarring of facial features such as cleft lip. Corrective camouflage adds color to un-pigmented or discolored areas to blend with the surrounding skin. Scars received from accidents, burns or surgery may be camouflaged to reduce visibility.

Permanent makeup should be designed and applied as an enhancement of the individuals own features. Additional convenient makeup may be applied to create different fashion statements if so desired. It is important to note that pigments of this type will eventually fade and touch-ups to brighten the color may need to be performed periodically. This may vary depending from one to five years depending on each individual’s body chemistry and life-style. This procedure presents only a small amount of discomfort with minimal swelling or soreness usually lasting no more than one day. Women with allergies use permanent makeup to replace cosmetic products they are allergic to.

  Application
To begin the application, a topical anesthetic cream will be applied to the skin for approximately fifteen minutes. At this point the cream will be removed and a makeup pencil will be used to artistically design a pleasing shape for the eyebrows or lip liner. (I do not shave your eyebrows) Once you are satisfied with the shape and expression, the color will be selected. Pigments come in an assortment of shades and colors and may also be custom blended to match and compliment your natural hair and skin tones. Using the drawn on design as a guide, pigment will be implanted into the skin by using a new, sterile and disposable needle cluster.

Each procedure takes approximately 1 to 1 ˝ hours to complete. Care instructions: For the following three days, an ointment (A & D or Vaseline only) must be kept on the area. Between the fourth and seventh day a light crust will form and fall off. DO NOT PICK OR RUB THE SKIN where the pigment has been applied. The healed color will be lighter and softer than what originally appeared. A follow-up visit will be required in four weeks. At this visit another light layer of color is applied to the area. If needed, adjustments to the shape or color tone can be made at this time. Due to various skin types and body chemistry, periodic touch ups may be necessary anywhere from one to five years. These touch-ups will be performed for a nominal fee.

Dear Wanda,

This is just to say thank you very much for all your great work. I really love my eyebrows. It makes getting ready in the morning a great deal easier and quicker!

I also really appreciate all of your follow-up work to ensure that my brows are the best that they can be. You give an excellent value for my money. I doubt very much if other places would take the time and trouble to make sure my brows would be to my satisfaction.

Best regards,

Lora Ghan
